Veliko-Tarnovo, The previous Capital of Bulgaria

Our next travels in Bulgaria involved a 3 hour car journey north from Plovdiv to the previous capital city of Veliko Tarnovo. A small city nestling in the hills offers some superb views as you can see below. The impressive, neighbouring fortress and walls of Tsarevets offer panoramic views down to the valleys below. The long high street has plenty of restaurant and shopping choices and we found it difficult to resist the offer at one drinking establishment, which was 10 shots (see picture below) for the grand price of just €5! The content of the shots was apparently determined by the discretion and mood of the bartender, ours were quite strong but great value for money!!
