Staying in the heart of Sofia, Bulgaria

Sofia offered us a bit of downtime having travelled a fair bit around Bulgaria and we had a nice modern apartment right in the centre of the city. There are excellent examples of impressive architecture and many of these properties are Government buildings, but there is also quite a mix of old and new in the centre, with old churches and dwellings sitting side by side with modern properties. What we did find in Bulgaria generally was that it was quite cheap to eat out even in the main shopping street, which was lined with cafes and restaurants. The Angel of Sofia statue looking over towards the National Assembly is impressive and appears to gracefully embrace and protect a modern Bulgaria that is moving forward from its more oppressed past.
