Plovdiv, the second biggest city in Bulgaria can lay claim to be the oldest, constantly inhabited city in Europe and one of the oldest in the World. The contrast between its past and present is illustrated in the pictures below and the Roman Theatre featured here is one of the World's best-preserved ancient theatres. Events are held here today and can be host up to 7,000 spectators. In the city centre, there is much to see and enjoy with the wide, modern shopping street and the myriad of beautiful cobbled street lanes in the Old Town, which is an architectural and historical reserve populated by attractive buildings dating back over the centuries.
